Nestled away in Sydney's hustling city is a dainty fabric shop I call my sewing home. Wandering through The Fabric Store is like wandering through your cool wealthy grandma's sewing box filled with fabrics from all over the world. A perfect mix of linens, merinos, silks and floral fabrics and the fabric here is often utilized by designers all around the world. When making a garment inspired by Faithfull The Brand, With Jean, Realisation Par etc. there is where I head for fabric.
Why I like The Fabric Store is their passion for sewing is shown in every aspect of their business. If you need help with choosing materials or technical advice all their staff are passionate sewers who love hearing about customer projects and want to give genuine advice. They regularly update their stock and have new fabrics arriving weekly and what's best is their fabric buyers are following the world trends and know what trending fabrics they need to stock. They have a great regularly updated collection of discounted fabrics and this is often where I pick up great linens at prices cheaper than the main fabric retailers such as Lincraft and Spotlight. Their online website also offers free patterns and have special guest designers who write interesting pieces on sewing and fashion which I have learn a lot from over the years. The Fabric Store in Surrey Hills overall is one of the best in my eyes with its high quality fabrics, passionate staff and a genuine interest in serving customers to make their project the best it can be.
Whether you’re a beginner sewer or 10 years into the game, the fabric you choose has a major influence on your finished product and projects become extra-special when you've put thought into your materials and chosen the best.
